Image for Principal

Hello!  My name is Dr. Nelson and I am your principal here at Heritage Elementary School. I was raised in Madison County and am a graduate of Buckhorn High School (Go Bucks!). I currently live in Madison with my husband Patrick, my bonus sons Nathan and Andrew, and my twin girls, Arabella and Kaitlyn. Patrick is an attorney for the US Army and works on Redstone Arsenal. Nathan is currently attending school at Auburn University and Andrew is a student at James Clemens High School (Go Jets!). The girls are still in preschool as they await to begin their school years here at Heritage.

I attended The University of Alabama for my B.S., Ed.S., and Ph.D. degrees.  While in Tuscaloosa for my undergraduate studies I also marched in the Million Dollar Band, which was an awesome opportunity. As you can imagine we are avid Alabama fans and we enjoy tailgating and attending many football games.  However, we also have to appreciate Auburn University, as our oldest son, Nathan, and our money are attending there!

We are active members of Holmes Street United Methodist Church in Huntsville and both Patrick and I sing in the sanctuary choir.  Since the birth of our twins, I have been very involved in the Huntsville Area Mothers of Multiples (HAMOM) group and enjoy the fellowship I have with fellow MoMs.

Professionally I am involved with numerous organizations such as The International Reading Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Council of Leaders in Alabama Schools, and the Alabama Reading Association were I have served as past president and am currently the Legislative Chair.  During my spare time I enjoy cheering for Alabama football, going to the beach and/or mountains, day trips with my family, reading, cooking with my husband, going to the movies, and generally, just spending time with my family.

I am very honored to serve as principal of Heritage Elementary School. It is a joy to work daily with our staff and parents as we work together to meet the learning needs of all of our students.
