WELCOME

Learn about Madison City Honor Chorus

Madison city music teachers are delighted to offer students the opportunity to participate in vocal ensemble for fifth and sixth graders! The Madison City Honor Chorus  is comprised of 5th and 6th grade students from every elementary school in Madison City. Chorus members are selected through an audition process. Students who wish to be part of the chorus may audition in October during Fall Semester and in January during Spring semester. Details regarding dates, times, locations and expectations for auditions are listed below and also found on the Honor Chorus webpage found below  After auditions, the chorus will rehearse together on Thursdays after school up until their last performance in May. This year the Honor Chorus will be featured at the Madison City Tree Lighting Ceremony, at Santa's Village and both Madison City Schools Arts' Festivals.  If you have any further questions you may contact the elementary music teacher serving your child’s school.

AUDITION INFORMATION:

Audition sessions are held in October and January. Each session is very brief, about 5 minutes per student.  Students may sing a capella, or with an accompanist (someone playing either piano or guitar).  Students who wish to have an accompanist for their auditions must bring someone with them. An electronic piano will be provided for accompaniment at the audition site.

Students are required to bring a self-addressed, stamped envelope to auditions. This envelope will be mailed back to your home with your audition results.

 Audition Requirements:

♦ C Major Scale: One octave from memory, in solfege syllables, ascending and descending,

Click HERE for an example of someone singing a solfege scale.

♦ One Chosen Piece: Students may choose a piece to sing that showcases their own unique vocal talents for the judges. Please note, students should plan to only sing a small excerpt from this song.

♦ Prepared Piece- Dona Nobis: The prepared piece is part of a song that the entire chorus will be performing for their concerts. We would like to hear how each child does learning this new melody.
